The fulltext-search doesn't work! How can I correct this?
MAP's fulltext search function uses the MS Indexing Service (IS), which is part of your MS Windows 2000 or MS Windows XP. This service might be disabled or deactivated either by a program or by MS Windows itself. In this case MAP will not receive any results for its fulltext queries. Unfortunately the service will not report an error, so MAP just assumes that there are no hits for your fulltext query.

Let us first try to find the problem. Please open the "Computer Management" console by navigating to Settings/Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management. Then open the "Services And Applications" branch and click on "Indexing Service".

There should be a catalog "MailArchivePro" which is configured to index MAP's document path. The document path definition can be found in MAP's menu at Tools/Options/Misc./Pathes/Documents.

Click on the catalog "MailArchivePro" and then on "Query the catalog". Enter a word which you want to search and which exists in many of your emails and click on "Search". If some mails are found, the Indexing Service obviously works. The same word should be found when you search for it using MAP!

If both MAP and the Indexing Service doesn't find the word, you should please read and follow the following FAQ articles:

  • The fulltext-search doesn't find mails which are added lately, it needs some hours until they are found. What's that?
  • Sometimes certain words are not found, but I know that they exist in some mails. Is this a bug?
Check whether the Indexing Service is activated. Right-click on "Indexing Service" to open the context-menu:

"Start" has to be greyed and disabled. If it is not disabled, click on "Start". Please keep in mind that the Indexing Service needs some time now to create the index.

Check whether the Indexing Service is activated for MAP's document path: First locate the document path using the Windows Explorer (open "My Computer"). To see which document path is being used on your computer, open MAP and locate Tools/Options/Misc./Paths in the menu. The document path should end with "/docs". In the Windows Explorer, right-click on that folder and choose "Properties":

The option "For fast searching, allow Indexing Service to index this folder" has to be ticked.

If none of the above does help, you should delete the catalog "MailArchivePro" and create a fresh new version of it:
  • Right-click on "Indexing Service" to open the context menu and click on "Stop"
  • Right-click on the catalog "MaiArchivePro" and click on "Delete"
  • Right-click on "Indexing Service" and choose "New"/"Catalog"
  • Name the new catalog "MailArchivePro". Click on "Browse..." and locate the document path which is defined in MAP but without the /docs at the end (i.e. what we need here is the parent folder of the /docs folder). Click on "OK" to use this path
  • In the new catalog right-click on "Directories" and then on "New"/"Directory". Click on "Browse..." and locate the document path which is defined in MAP. Click on "OK" to use this path
  • Start the "Indexing Service": Right-click on "Indexing Service" and then click on "Start"
  • Reboot the computer, log in and wait some time without using the computer - sometimes the Indexing Service only works when the computer is idle
The MS Indexing Service does not support catalogs on network drives! Therefore MAP's fulltext functionality supports only local drives.
